Belgium: Harmonized inflation stabilizes in January
Latest reading: Harmonized inflation held steady at December’s 4.4% in January. January’s result represented the joint-lowest inflation rate since September 2024. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing and utilities, and transportation rose at a faster rate, while prices for clothing plus communication declined.
The trend pointed up, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 4.6% in January (December: 4.3%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation rose to 4.1% in January from the previous month’s 3.2%.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices fell 0.78% in January over the previous month, swinging from December’s 0.75% increase. January’s result marked the weakest reading since April 2023.
