Costa Rica: Economic activity growth accelerates in December
Latest reading: Economic activity expanded 5.8% year on year in December (November: +4.7% yoy). December’s figure marked the best reading since April. Looking at the details of the release, the construction and manufacturing sectors gained steam. Less positively, the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector shrank at a faster pace in December.
Meanwhile, annual average economic activity growth rose to 4.5% in December (November: +4.2%), pointing to an improving trend. On a monthly basis, economic activity declined 0.7% in seasonally adjusted terms in December, contrasting November’s 2.1% expansion and marking the worst result since March 2023.
