Finland: Current account swings to surplus in November
Latest reading: The current account posted a EUR 0.3 billion surplus in November, improving from the EUR 0.4 billion deficit posted in October (November 2023: EUR 1.5 billion surplus). Meanwhile, in the 12 months leading up to November, the current account posted a EUR 0.1 billion deficit, compared to the EUR 1.0 billion surplus recorded in October.
The merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a EUR 0.7 billion surplus in November (October 2024: EUR 0.3 billion surplus). Merchandise exports sank 26.0% annually in November, following October’s 0.4% fall. November’s outturn marked the sharpest decline since March. Meanwhile, merchandise imports declined 8.3% on an annual basis in November (October: +5.9% yoy), marking the weakest result since June 2024.
