Finland: Current account swings into a deficit in October
Latest reading: The current account recorded a EUR 0.3 billion deficit in October, contrasting the EUR 1.2 billion surplus booked in September (October 2023: EUR 0.3 billion deficit). Meanwhile, the 12-month trailing current account surplus improved, coming in at EUR 0.8 billion in October (September: EUR 0.7 billion surplus).
The merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a EUR 0.4 billion surplus in October (September 2024: EUR 1.0 billion surplus). Merchandise exports contracted 8.3% month on month in seasonally adjusted terms in October (September: +6.5% mom s.a.). Meanwhile, merchandise imports fell 0.9% on a monthly basis in October (September: +0.1% mom s.a.).
