France: Industrial activity contracts at sharpest pace since May 2024 in January
Latest reading: Industrial output declined 0.6% in month-on-month seasonally adjusted terms in January, which was a larger contraction than December’s 0.5% decrease. The outturn marked the worst reading since May 2024, and was due to drops in manufacturing, mining and quarrying, and energy production.
On an annual basis, industrial production fell at a sharper rate of 1.6% in January (December: -1.5% yoy). Moreover, the trend pointed down, with the annual average variation of industrial production coming in at minus 0.4% in January, down from December’s minus 0.2% reading.
