Guatemala: Inflation drops to lowest level in nearly 15 years in October
Latest reading: Inflation slowed to 1.2% in October from September’s 2.1%, falling further below the Central Bank’s 3.0–5.0% target band. October’s reading marked the lowest inflation rate since December 2009. Looking at the details of the release, the slowdown chiefly reflected a softer increase in costs for food and non-alcoholic beverages. That said, clothing and footwear prices rose at a quicker pace in October compared to the previous month, while prices housing, electricity, water and fuels declined at a weaker pace.
Accordingly, annual average inflation fell to 3.3% in October (September: 3.6%).
Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.33% in October over the previous month, swinging from the 0.38% fall recorded in September.
