Guatemala: Inflation declines to lowest level in over four years in September
Latest reading: Inflation dropped to 2.1% in September from August’s 3.1%. September’s figure marked the lowest inflation rate since May 2020, falling below the Central Bank’s 3.0–5.0% target band. Looking at the details of the release, slower price pressures for food and alcoholic beverages, and a faster decline in prices for housing, electricity, water and fuels tempered inflation in September.
Accordingly, the trend pointed down mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 3.6% in September (August: 3.8%).
Lastly, consumer prices dropped 0.38% in September over the previous month, a sharper drop than August’s 0.06% fall. September’s result marked the weakest reading since November 2023.
