Hong Kong: Inflation stays muted in December
Latest reading: Inflation was unchanged at 1.4% in December from November, with a sharper fall in clothing prices offset by a faster rise in transport prices.
Annual average inflation edged down to 1.7% in December (November: 1.8%).
Lastly, consumer prices ticked up 0.1% from the previous month in December, above the flat reading logged in November.
Overall, price pressures remain among the lowest rates in Asia, kept in check by mainland China’s huge manufacturing capacity, the currency peg to the U.S. dollar, and subdued retail sales as some Hong Kongers opt to shop on the mainland.
