Hungary: Economic sentiment deteriorates in December
Latest reading: Economic sentiment fell to 91.7 in December from November’s 95.0. December’s result marked the worst performance since June 2023. Consequently, the index remained below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected declining sentiment in the industrial and retail sectors plus cooling confidence in the services sector. That said, consumer confidence rose in December, and sentiment in the construction sector improved.
Regarding indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations improved, while the economic uncertainty index improved in December.
