Hungary: Inflation strengthens in in December
Latest reading: Inflation jumped to 4.6% in December, up from November’s 3.7%. The result marked the highest inflation rate in a year and moved above the ceiling of the Central Bank’s 2.0–4.0% target range. Looking at the details of the release, prices for both food and housing and energy rose at a quicker pace.
The trend pointed down mildly, with annual average inflation edging down to 3.7% in December (November: 3.8%). Meanwhile, core inflation rose to 4.7% in December from the previous month’s 4.4%.
Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.53% in December over the previous month, largely in line with the 0.52% rise recorded in November. December’s uptick marked the highest reading since July.
