India: Merchandise exports increase in September
Latest reading: Merchandise exports rose 0.5% annually in September, improving from August’s 9.3% decrease. Meanwhile, merchandise imports expanded 1.6% over the same month last year in September (August: +3.3% yoy), marking the weakest result since March 2024.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a USD 20.8 billion shortfall in September (August 2024: USD 29.6 billion deficit; September 2023: USD 20.1 billion deficit). Lastly, the trend deteriorated, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 259.4 billion deficit in September, compared to the USD 258.7 billion deficit in August.
