India: Merchandise exports rise at a quicker pace in October
Latest reading: Merchandise exports soared 17.2% annually in October, on the heels of September’s 0.5% rise. October’s result marked the fastest increase since June 2022. Meanwhile, merchandise imports climbed 3.9% on an annual basis in October (September: +1.6% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 27.1 billion deficit in October (September 2024: USD 20.8 billion deficit; October 2023: USD 30.4 billion deficit). Lastly, the trend improved, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 256.2 billion deficit in October, compared to the USD 259.5 billion deficit in September.
