Indonesia: Merchandise exports accelerate in October
Latest reading: Merchandise exports rose 9.2% on an annual basis in October (September: +5.3% year-on-year). October’s figure marked the strongest increase since January 2023. Meanwhile, merchandise imports soared 15.1% in annual terms in October (September: +5.8% yoy), marking the highest result since October 2022.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 3.6 billion surplus in October (September 2024: USD 4.0 billion surplus; October 2023: USD 4.3 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed down, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 39.3 billion surplus in October, compared to the USD 40.0 billion surplus in September.
