Ireland: Harmonized inflation weakly returns in October
Latest reading: Harmonized inflation came in at 0.1% in October, increasingly slightly from September’s flat reading. Transport plus housing and utilities prices continued to decline, while food prices rose at a sharper pace; inflation has been lower than anticipated this year as a result of an unexpected drop in oil and gas prices.
The trend pointed down, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 1.7% in October (September: 2.0%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation was steady, coming in at September’s 0.7% in October.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices increased 0.25% in October over the previous month, swinging from the 1.00% drop logged in September. October’s figure was the highest reading since June.
