Kazakhstan: Inflation rises to a 10-month high in January
Latest reading: Inflation accelerated to 8.9% in January from December’s 8.6%, marking the highest rate since March 2024. The reading remained entrenched above the Central Bank’s medium-term target of 5.0% and outpaced market expectations. According to the preliminary release, the upturn was broad-based, with prices for both goods and services gaining traction.
That said, the trend pointed down, with annual average inflation edging down to 8.6% in January (December: 8.7%).
Finally, consumer prices rose 1.13% over the previous month in January, above December’s 0.91 rise. January’s uptick was the highest reading since February 2023.
