Latvia: Economic sentiment decreases in January
Latest reading: Economic sentiment came in at 97.4 in January, down from December’s 98.0. As a result, the index remained below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected worse sentiment in the industrial and construction sectors. In addition, consumer confidence cooled. Meanwhile, confidence in the services sector was healthier in January, and sentiment in the retail sector improved in the surveyed month.
Considering indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations deteriorated, while the economic uncertainty index rose in January.
