Lithuania: Harmonized inflation increases in January
Latest reading: Harmonized inflation jumped to 3.4% in January, up from December’s 1.9%. The reading was the highest inflation rate since September 2023. Looking at the details of the release, housing and utilities prices rose for the first time in a year and a half in January, likely due to disruptions in electricity production during the month. Additionally, price pressures for food and transport increased.
The trend pointed up slightly, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 1.0% in January (December: 0.9%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation rose to 3.6% in January from December’s 2.1%.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices increased 1.62% in January over the previous month, accelerating from December’s 0.15% rise. January’s figure was the highest reading since September 2022.
