Malaysia: Inflation stabilizes in January
Latest reading: Inflation was stable at December’s 1.7% in January. The result was the joint-lowest inflation rate since January 2024. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages plus housing and utility increased at a weaker pace, while price growth for transport more than doubled from the prior month.
The trend pointed up mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 1.9% in January (December: 1.8%).
Finally, consumer prices rose 0.15% from the previous month in January, picking up from December’s 0.08% increase. January’s figure marked the highest reading since October 2024.
