Malaysia: Merchandise exports increase in October
Latest reading: Merchandise exports shot up 12.1% on an annual basis in October (September: +9.1% year-on-year). Meanwhile, merchandise imports growth softened to 13.3% on an annual basis in October (September: +21.8% yoy), marking the weakest result since May 2024.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 2.8 billion surplus in October (September 2024: USD 3.0 billion surplus; October 2023: USD 2.7 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend improved, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 27.5 billion surplus in October, compared to the USD 27.5 billion surplus in September.
