Malaysia: Merchandise exports gain steam in February
Latest reading: Merchandise exports jumped 14.0% over the same month last year in February, on the heels of January’s 5.2% increase. Meanwhile, merchandise imports rose 13.2% over the same month last year in February (January: +11.3% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a USD 2.8 billion surplus in February (January 2025: USD 0.8 billion surplus; February 2024: USD 2.4 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend improved, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 29.2 billion surplus in February, compared to the USD 28.7 billion surplus in January.
