Netherlands: Economic sentiment falls to six-month low in October
Latest reading: Economic sentiment dropped to 98.7 in October, down from September’s 101.0. October’s result marked the weakest sentiment since April. Consequently, the index dipped below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected deteriorating sentiment in the industrial and construction sectors. Moreover, consumer confidence waned in October and confidence in the services sector stagnated. More positively, sentiment in the retail sector was up in the surveyed month.
Relating to indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations weakened, while the economic uncertainty index rose in October.
