Latest reading: Consumer confidence fell to 93.2 in March from February’s 96.6. Consequently, the index remained below the 100-threshold indicating pessimism among consumers.
Consumers grew more downbeat about current and future economic conditions in March, and judged it a bad time to buy large items. The subdued confidence data in March fits with our panelists’ projections for only mild private consumption growth in Q1 as a whole.
