Peru: Merchandise exports increase in December
Latest reading: Merchandise exports rose 9.2% over the same month last year in December (November: +25.9% year-on-year), largely driven by higher prices for metal exports. Meanwhile, merchandise imports soared 12.1% over the same month last year in December (November: +15.5% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 2.3 billion surplus in December (November 2024: USD 2.8 billion surplus; December 2023: USD 2.2 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed up, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 23.8 billion surplus in December, compared to the USD 23.7 billion surplus in November.
