Poland: Retail sales growth deteriorates in August
Latest reading: Retail sales rose 2.5% in year-on-year terms in August, which was a deterioration from July’s 4.4% increase. The result marked the worst reading since December 2023. The figure was primarily driven by weaker motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts sales. In addition, furniture, radio, TV and household appliances sales contracted sharply. Lastly, fuel sales moderated, while food, beverages and tobacco sales contracted at a softer pace than in the prior month.
On a monthly basis, retail sales grew 1.9% in seasonally adjusted terms in August, rebounding from July’s 2.7% fall. Meanwhile, annual average of retail sales was 4.3% in August, mirroring July’s reading.
