Romania: Industrial activity deteriorates in December
Latest reading: Industrial output declined 1.2% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in December (November: +0.1% mom s.a.), marking the worst reading since July 2024. The reading reflected a contraction in manufacturing output, which shrank at the sharpest pace in six months. Moreover, energy supply output deteriorated. That said, mining and quarrying production contracted at a softer rate.
On a seasonally and calendar adjusted annual basis, factory output fell at a sharper rate of 3.4% in December (November: -0.6% yoy s.a.). Moreover, the trend pointed down, with the annual average variation of industrial production coming in at minus 1.7%, down from November’s minus 1.3%.
