Serbia: Inflation comes in at highest level since April 2024 in January

Latest reading: Inflation increased to 4.6% in January, slightly above December’s 4.3%. January’s reading was the highest inflation rate since April 2024. The acceleration was largely driven by rising prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, transportation prices rose at a quicker rate.

That said, the trend pointed down slightly, with annual average inflation coming in at 4.5% in January (December: 4.7%). Meanwhile, core inflation rose to 5.6% in January from December’s 5.3%.

Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.61% over the previous month in January, picking up from the 0.14% increase recorded in December. January’s figure was the highest reading since April 2024.
