Taiwan: Inflation comes in at highest level since February 2024 in January
Latest reading: Inflation increased to 2.7% in January, above December’s 2.1%. January’s reading marked the highest inflation rate since February 2024. That said, the uptick was likely temporary and at least in part due to the Lunar New Year falling earlier in 2025 than in 2024. Looking at the details of the release, transportation prices rose in January after dropping in the previous month, while price pressures for education increased notably.
The trend pointed up mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 2.3% in January (December: 2.2%).
Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.55% over the previous month in January, contrasting the 0.01% drop recorded in December. January’s uptick was the highest reading since April 2024.
