Taiwan: Inflation increases in November
Latest reading: Inflation increased to 2.1% in November from October’s 1.7%. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food rose at a quicker pace in November due to the impact of typhoon rains. Moreover, transport prices fell at a softer pace in November compared to October.
The trend pointed down slightly, with annual average inflation coming in at 2.2% in November (October: 2.3%).
Finally, consumer prices increased 0.10% in November over the previous month, a smaller increase than October’s 0.25% rise. November’s result marked the weakest reading since March.
Outlook: Despite moderate inflation this year of around 2.0% on average and expectations of moderate inflation ahead, our panelists do not see any monetary easing at the Central Bank’s next meeting on 19 December, amid concerns over the hot housing market.
