Thailand: Inflation comes in at highest level since May in December

Latest reading: Inflation rose to 1.2% in December, from November’s 0.9%. December’s figure marked the highest inflation rate since May. Looking at the details of the release, transport prices grew more than twice as fast as in the prior month, while price growth for food plus housing and utilities was largely steady in December.

Annual average inflation rose to 0.4% in December (November: 0.2%). Meanwhile, core inflation was stable, coming in at November’s 0.8% in December.

Lastly, consumer prices fell 0.18% in December over the previous month, largely in line with the 0.13% fall recorded in November. December’s result marked the sharpest fall in prices since June.
