Thailand: Merchandise exports accelerate in January
Latest reading: Merchandise exports shot up 12.9% in annual terms in January, following December’s 8.3% rise. Meanwhile, merchandise imports expanded 7.5% on an annual basis in January (December: +13.3% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 0.4 billion surplus in January (December 2024: USD 1.9 billion surplus; January 2024: USD 0.7 billion deficit). Lastly, the trend improved, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 20.4 billion surplus in January, compared to the USD 19.3 billion surplus in December.
