Thailand: Merchandise exports lose steam in December
Latest reading: Merchandise exports rose 8.3% on an annual basis in December, on the heels of November’s 9.1% rise. Meanwhile, merchandise imports shot up 13.3% on an annual basis in December (November: +2.3% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 1.9 billion surplus in December (November 2024: USD 2.0 billion surplus; December 2023: USD 2.7 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed down, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 19.3 billion surplus in December, compared to the USD 20.0 billion surplus in November.
